Boring interview about his career rather than about clinical discussion
Such open thinking! I just love reading her writing and listening to her.
How can i get the case formulation book
Dr Fosha offered an informative training with video sessions teaching the AEDP way of supporting a client on the PESI platform around May/ June 2024 it was a free live offering and currently for sale!! It truly expanded my knowledge and offers this profound way of supporting clients it was so transformative to witness!
hello from 2024:))))))) the zoomer is here to learn something about this life) thanks so much for the interview!! 7 years later and it's still incredible!
Thanks!! I canโt find the link to Alan Angus paper?
This would work brilliantly with Havening techniques.
Those boxes behind his back.. It seems like one of the most famous psychoterapists in the world, Jeffrey E. Young, was moving to another office and just had put his things in the boxes, when that man called him...
Has Nancy ever published the book on mental health she refers to @18:35?
The answer is no, but some of the content was added to her book on supervision.
I thought that Sue Johnson was the developer of EFT?
To dismiss transference this way is to misunderstand it. Even in the most rigid of places (traditional psychoanalytic literature) not everything can be dismissed as transference and it's simply not an accurate description of transference to say "the client isn't really talking to me but to her mother". I would honestly expect a prominent figure such as Spinelli to have a more nuanced and accurate understanding of transference even (and especially) if he aims to reject it as a relevant concept.
I think the quote about emotional memory converts the past into an expectation of the future without our conscious awareness could be better captured by changing the word converts to constructs. Convert means change but it is not changing it, it is constructing a narrative that makes sense to use as a rule or theory for what to expect in the future(in an unconscious way).
Can anyone point me to resources where Les discusses his idea that needs are constructed from feelings? I find it hard to conceptualise feelings pointing to anything without there being an underlying need to point towards
How does a person find a therapist with this level of knowledge and ability? It's impossible to find one, in my experience. I did EMDR over years and it was interesting and even wild at times but nothing changed at all. I'm certain it's because it's my stuff but i didn't have a therapist who could see that and work on it in the ways described in this interview. I just ordered Mr Ecker's book to study.
The more I learn about existential therapy, the more I see it to be the best way to proceed, for it addresses overarching paradigms and perennial problems that consistently plague people, whereas other forms attempt to treat the side effects of those paradigms.
Well put!!
Wonderful interview. Thank you very much for sharing it. In my country (Colombia), the topic of case formulation has been dominated by psychologists with a strictly behavioral approach. In my opinion, this has made it unnecessarily complicated, lacking in parsimony, and explained in a rather obscure and pretentious manner. This is what I love about American psychologists and scientists-they tend to be more parsimonious and practical. The conceptualization presented at minute 34:29 is simple, beautiful, yet also comprehensive. I hope to use Dr. Tracy's work to influence a different trend in my country regarding case conceptualization. One that is evidence-based but also parsimonious and practical.
Thanks for your comment! I agree Tracy's integrative formulation map is eloquent yet practical. Highly recommend his APA book on this topic!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you! I really enjoyed this!
Really wish this channel was still active.
This is very close to the metamodel in NLP. Activate the problem state and find the implicit learning then stimulate a resource state. Also very similar to parts therapy in Advanced conversational hypnosis.
I could feel the enthusiasm you exhibit during those interruptions. It was a great interview, and i congrulate you for conducting and sharing these with the world.
awesome! I just saw the interviews are back! THANK YOU! :)
An honest answer is, IT ALL DEPENDS!
Is this set of techniques distinct from reframing/sub-modality shifts in NLP ?
This interview really surprised me. Dr Silberschatz is wiser than most (sorry CBT'ers). The comments about RCTs are on point.
So boring. This about Young his career, not about cognitieve therapy
15:34 26:10
I've been doing Schema therapy with my therapist for several months and am having great success. Thank you for developing this great model to help folks like me.
... the client goes into destabilization. However, it is not a question that past schema is true while believing the new present schema. Both can be true. The past was true for the past. While the present for the now. The realization lies in that thou both true, yet cannot exist together.
Refreshing! I loved how she demythologized her process, and revealed the development through her life. Thank you Diano, and thank you Hans
Amazing interviewer! Thank you for this invaluable interview!
22:39 The Zulus in Australiaโ?? ๐
This makes total sense to me. I don't feel that the 4 pillars of existentialism resonate with me, it's the concept of grappling with complex systems and what that tells me about myself, who I am, what I believe in and what the future holds for me.
Wow vey impressed with your questions Alexander. They show the research you did on your guest, not just on the surface. You can be proud of yourself. Discovered your channel with this video. I'll be checking your other interviews for sure
The best decisions are evidence-based. Not experience. Not gut feelings, but real, hard evidence. In so many aspects of our lives, we think nothing of expecting others to base their decisions on evidence. When you take your car into the shop, do you want your mechanic making decisions on how to repair your automobile based upon his gut feelings? Or do you want your stock broker making decisions about your financial investments based upon her/his gut feelings? Most people want such decisions to be evidence-based. For psychotherapy, this means using the best research findings to make therapeutic decisions.
Yeah, the therapeutic fallacy like the gamblers fallacy or the drinkers fallacy or any fallacy; itโs fallaciousโฆ!!!! ๐ The answer is there is no answerโฆwatch โLife of Brianโ the bit where Brian is visited by โthe peopleโ. They camp on his doorstep & his mother, a Python in drag, tells them to โbugger offโโฆBrian then appeals to them observing that they are โall individuals dualsโ a lone voice, with perfect timing, opinesโฆโIโm not!โ This is therapyโฆthere are no constructs that can be used other than โthere are no constructs that can be carried into the inter subjective spaceโ. Therapy is a construct created in the inter subjective space between client & therapist, unique to every session & as such cannot be anticipated except that all knowledge is no knowledge. As Jung said โleave it all at the doorโโฆhow can this man BOT have anticipated Alexโs questionโฆโso what makes an expert?โ He responded as if that question had never occurred to himโฆ?!๐ฎ๐คทโโ๏ธ That should have been his opening consideration, surelyโฆ? As a philosophy graduate from Corsica said to me outside a cafรฉ in Malia in Crete; โโฆthe point is there is no pointโฆโ Touchรฉ, absolutalimonโฆ.๐๐
The world of psychotherapy is continuously evolving, with new trends, techniques, and technologies shaping the way therapists interact with their clients and measure their progress. Among these trends, the shift towards evidence-based practice has become particularly significant. This trend is not just a fad; itโs a profound transformation that promises to make therapy more effective, efficient, and transparent.
Psychotherapy, a journey of introspection and healing, demands both the therapist and client to continuously track and understand progress. The Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) in psychology, with its brevity and simplicity, is a tool that offers significant benefits in this journey of emotional and mental discovery.
This was like being in Jeremy's office for an hour exchanging ideas again; a huge loss to no longer have this opportunity with him. Thank you so much for posting this; he is so dearly missed.
"unconscious despair looks and feels like depression" - very interesting, thank you.
This is what I've been looking for for over 20 years. CBT was not helping and I felt I would be stuck in a loop of eternal dissociation and depression symptoms. The focus on needs is essential! Thank you.
would have been nice if there were time stamps, sat through the first 30 mins without any talk on schema therapy specifically :(
Nice to known this channel is still posting.
Haha relate to Jon's experience in supervision and I was also asking the specific questions and finding supervisors wanting with vague nostrums. Jon is a legend of our times. Therapists would do well to have a practical hobby like ju jitsu, crafting, music so one understands objectivity in evaluating good therapy
Great interview style. This channel is full of wisdom!
Yalom shows contempt for patients in his books. The therapy industry loves holding up individuals as masters because they wrote a book and the weird culture of having leaders grows. If only pscyhotherapy was actually as safe and effective as theyd' have you believe. Psychotherapy outcomes are not always positive. Approximately 40-60% of patients do not reach a recovery criterion (Fisher and Durham, 1999; Gyani et al., 2013; HSCIS, 2018) and between 5 and 8.2% have a negative outcome, with worse mental health at the end of therapy than at intake (Barkham et al., 2001; Hansen et al., 2002). Estimates vary because of measurement and population differences. However, there is an important difference between an unsuccessful therapy and a harmful one. Clinical deterioration can be caused by many factors external to the therapy, and failure to benefit from therapy does not imply harm. Negative effects of therapy are common, may be short-lived, and emotionally distressing experience may be an intrinsic part of good therapy (Schermuly-Haupt et al., 2018). Rozental et al. (2019) found that 50.9% of 564 clients in low intensity CBT reported some degree of adverse experience during therapy on the Negative Effects Questionnaire (NEQ). In contrast, in a survey of 14,587 British patients receiving National Health Service psychotherapy, 5% reported โlasting bad effectsโ of therapy (Crawford et al., 2016). Although this is a much smaller proportion, it represents a large number of patients who report that therapy has been, to some extent, harmful.
Hi all, Alex Vaz here I mainly want to thank all the wonderful comments and support on this video. It's very heartwarming to see how schema therapy and Jeff have positively impacted so many lives! You might be interested that the Counseling Center for which I'm clinical director is very heavily biased towards Schema Therapy. If you're curious, we have free video training on youtube, including free schema therapy training. Here's a sample in case you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/Rv1qY3NE2EA/v-deo.html
I`m in the begging of my training in CBT and our trainer introduced us Schema therapy which immediately took my interest. Knowing my schema helped me be more aware of myself, my emotions and not reacting on triggers. Very profound and inspiring interview with Jeffrey, especially the part about how he developed the method. I became quite intrigued in it and definitely will search for more books and education on it!!
I have the highest praise for the interviewer. He has a deep knowledge of Youngโs theory and asks wonderful questions. Itโs a pleasure to experience the warm connection between the two people.
Congratulations! Would love to see an interview with Teal Swan (and or Byron Katie). You rock!!
Great video thank you
